Turnbull & Asser
Jermyn Street, London, UK·Shirts, Made-to-Measure
About
Turnbull & Asser has made shirts since 1885, and has stood at 71–72 Jermyn Street since 1903. A bespoke shirt is cut to the customer's own paper pattern and passes through the hands of sixteen craftspeople — thirty-three separate pieces of cloth, joined largely by hand, over roughly eight weeks. The house holds a Royal Warrant, the first granted by HRH The Prince of Wales when he gained the power to bestow them in 1980, and has dressed Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, and James Bond. Alongside the Jermyn Street flagship, the house keeps shops on Bury Street and Davies Street in London and a townhouse in New York.
