About
Ryota Hayafuji is a Japanese bespoke shoemaker in Munich. Born in Hokkaido in 1972, he studied footwear at Cordwainers College in London, where he learnt hand-welting from Paul Wilson and was the top student of his first year, then continued training in Paris with Dimitri Gomez. After some years running shoe repair and custom orders for a clothing shop in Japan, he moved to Munich in 2009, retrained in several workshops and opened his own in 2012. He makes hand-welted bespoke shoes with a choice of sole and welt finishes (square or bevelled waist, close, stepped, Norwegian or blind welt), and also works as an outworker for other shoemakers. Open Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00, Saturdays by appointment; please write by email or Instagram before visiting.
