About
MotivMfg was founded in Beijing in 2016 by Samuel Wei — a pioneer of China's heritage-menswear scene through Radiance Blue — and Daniel Gu, a third-generation tailor. From the loft of a 1950s former factory, a small team makes everything start to finish in-house, drafting patterns by hand from antique tailoring manuals — some dating to the 1920s — and developing them through drape and baste fittings. The result crosses vintage European tailoring with industrial-era workwear: anatomical, three-dimensional cutting that follows the body, in cloth from Japan, England, Scotland and China with custom trims and hardware. Stocked by Standard & Strange, Division Road and others, with made-to-order offered at trunk shows.
