Michelangelo Torre
About
Michelangelo Torre is a bespoke lastmaker and shoemaker based in London. Originally from Barletta in Puglia, he studied foreign languages and International Business Culture at the University of Urbino before beginning shoemaking as a weekend apprenticeship with an old cobbler in Italy.
After moving to Sweden in 2015, he travelled to Japan to train with Atsushi Onai at Il Quadrifoglio in Kobe and with Toru Saito in Yokohama, and later studied Traditional Lastmaking with Riccardo Cianci of Calzoleria Carlino. He moved to London just before Brexit to join Cleverley, where he spent five years as a lastmaker, learning under John Carnera and travelling with George Glasgow Jr for trunk shows across the US.
His house style sits between the structure of English shoemaking and the elegance and lightness of Italian design, drawing increasing inspiration from Italian patterns in La Scarpa Maschile by Irvana Malabarba. He favours softer shapes and a lower toe spring, with a focus on fit, subtle detail, and building a personal relationship with each client.
