About
Tango 245 is a by-appointment shop on the fifth floor of the Yoto Building at 1-30-11 Nihonbashi-Kakigaracho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, a few minutes from Suitengumae and Ningyocho stations. Its owner, Keisuke Yuki, opened it in 2019 to sell the bespoke wardrobe he had assembled over thirty years: unworn pieces from houses that no longer exist (Gatto, Guido Bosi), suits and coats he commissioned himself at Henry Poole and Anderson & Sheppard, Cleverley and Lobb shoes, Russian calf bags and cases, First World War-era coats, and dead-stock cloth such as Irish linen and vicuña — priced deliberately low, he says, so that a younger generation can discover what the old houses made. The stock runs to Huntsman, Caraceni, Panico, Liverano, Attolini, Camps de Luca, Cifonelli, Edward Sexton, Marini, Stefano Bemer and many others, and young tailors and shoemakers may borrow pieces from it, free of charge, to study or take apart. More recently the shop has begun commissioning its own pieces with young Japanese artisans, modelled on the old shapes — 1960s Anderson & Sheppard, Cork Street-era Cleverley — rather than anything current: suits, jackets, coats and trousers cut from a paper pattern with a basted fitting, offered either as what it calls 100% full-hand (even the pocket bags are sewn by hand) or semi-hand, with coats priced the same as suits; largely hand-sewn shirts, measured and prototyped for the first order; hand-welted shoes made start to finish by a single maker on the shop's own lasts, sized from a trial sample rather than fully bespoke; and unlined fourteen-fold ties finished by hand with a roulotté edge, in the ¥10,000s at the introductory price. Alterations and complete remakes of vintage pieces from stock — a size 56 suit recut to a 44 — are also taken on. Hours are irregular, by appointment, including evenings and weekends when the owner is free; enquire by email or phone, in Japanese.
