About

Shibumi Firenze was founded in 2012 by Benedikt Fries, a German with an Italian grandfather who dressed at a local bespoke tailor and a lasting attachment to Japan; the name (渋味) means understated elegance. It began with handmade ties and is still best known for them — silks woven in Como, Macclesfield and Kyoto, sewn by hand in Florence — including a bespoke tie service with more than 350 fabrics to choose from, from €140. The range has grown to hand-rolled pocket squares, ready-to-wear shirts and knitwear made in Italy, boxcloth braces made in England, trousers made in Japan, socks, scarves and gloves, sold online and through retailers worldwide. Fries has also offered bespoke tailoring cut by Mario Liguori, formerly of A. Caraceni, through trunk shows (jackets from about €2,500, suits from about €3,000). Enquiries in English, Italian, German, Japanese or Chinese.
