Materna Maßschuhe

Materna has made shoes to measure in Vienna since 1907 — feine Maßarbeit from a shop on Mahlerstraße 5, a few steps from the State Opera, whose clientele has run from heads of state and royals to artists and businesspeople from around the world. Each bespoke pair begins with an individually measured wooden last and passes through some 300 hand operations, in leathers from calf, chevreau and stag to ostrich, crocodile and snake — shoes built, with proper care, to last a lifetime. Alongside the bespoke work the house carries its own ready-to-wear line, plus belts, leather goods and shoe care. Open Monday to Saturday.
